AniManga: Dogs Bullets & Carnage

Dogs, is a popular manga by Shirow Miwa. It began in 2001 as a mini-series titled Dogs: Stray Dogs Howling in the Dark. It had a short run then came back in 2005 as Dogs: Bullets and Carnage. I started following the series during Bullets and Carnage.

The story is set in a futuristic city where genetically modified beings have been given enhancements that make them virtually immortal. There are crime syndicates similar to the mafia which organise assassinations, and mutants with animal characteristics and there own code of law.

The story focuses on four people that become connected by a series of coincidences. Each person is an anti-hero looking for answers to their individual past. My favorite is Badou. He's a nicotine addicted journalist that becomes psychotic if he goes to long without a cigarette. He's a mix of comedic relief and bad-ass gunslinger.

The other three main characters are Naoto, a female with superb sword skills also known as the Blade Maiden. Mihai, a retired mafia enforcer, and Heine a genetically modified boy with a collar attached to his neck that gives him super-human abilities.

All the characters are searching for an entrance into the underground facility called "Below". This is where most of the human experimentation and assassination training takes place. The rest is done by private sectors throughout the city. Some of the political leaders are also modified humans with there own secret agenda. The plot is a twisted, blend of comedic genius and hardcore gunplay. The fight scenes are surreal. There is allot of bullets and carnage just like the title says.

In 2009 a four-episode OVA adaptation was released. The anime was good but it was only a prelude to the series. I liked the action and it covered the origins of all the characters except Heine. His story is the most intricate and needs the the best explanation.

Hopefully there is a follow-up series to compliment the OVA cuz the manga is dope! I posted part 2 from the OVA below, check it out.

Human Evolution

How evolution occurs is still being highly debated by scientists. Some Darwinist believe it happens over millions of years gradually. While more modern scholars postulate the idea it happens rapidly in a short period, like an explosion.

In Dahua, southern China a boy named Nong Youhui is putting the question of evolution to the test. Youhui was born with bright blue eyes similar to what is seen on Europeans. His parents noticed when he was a week old and doctors told the parents they would change color as he grew older. A decade passed and since Youhu’s eyes worked well his parents forgot about them.

One of Youhu’s teachers noticed that if light was shined directly into Youhu’s eyes they reflected the light back like cats eyes. The teacher then contacted eye specialist who conducted tests on Youhu’s vision. They found that Youhu could see in the dark. His night vision was so precise he could catch crickets in the dark without a flashlight. The only time his eyes caused discomfort was when he played in bright daylight. The light receptors in his eyes captured to much light causing blurry vision.

Some people believe it’s human evolution. Others believe Youhui’s a hybrid mix of human and alien DNA. Regardless of what side of the fence you sit on, its interesting news. The video of Nong Youhui’s unusual tale is below. Although it sounds like science fiction it’s all true. Check it out.

The Darkside of Seedless Fruit

First off…all fruit contain seeds naturally. The purpose of the fruit is it to hold seeds and hopefully be consumed, digested and excreted to a new location. This germination symbiotic relationship happens in all areas of nature. Most commonly with bees and flowers. Seedless fruit is genetically modified fruit and has no place in nature.

The modifications are secret and patented by big named corporations. At first people assumed the fruit was created for convenience. Who wants to be seen spitting out the seeds of an orange or watermelon in public right? That tiny vanity made a niche market for companies to make a mutant fruit that has no seeds. It also took away the ability of the consumer to grow their own fruit. Say you brought a delicious bag of apples and decided you would grow some for yourself. With seedless fruit its not possible.

Seedless fruit takes away the ability to be self-sustaining. It makes you the consumer more dependent on the grocery stores for survival. When I was a kid almost all my aunts and neighbors had gardens where they would grow fruits and herbs. Everyone knew how to grow their own food and went to the grocery store only for necessities. Now most people use the grocery store for their only means of sustenance.

I’m not saying to stop eating seedless fruit, although if you eat natural its definitely more healthy. The only way to get naturally grown fruits these days is from local markets. If you buy it from a grocery store, it costs almost triple the price of the gen-mod foods… so it can be expensive.

What I am saying, is for a fruit to be seedless it has to be genetically engineered. Its sterile, infertile and the lasting effects from its consumption are still being debated by scientists. So if you are what you eat, and you’re eating sterile and infertile food…what will happen to you?
