Got Music

The title Got Music is a play on the old got milk advertisements which had every celebrity under the sun sporting a milk mustache.

Like the title says... the post below has a lot of music. There's new videos from Ludacris, Xzibit, Ice Cube, Lola Monroe, Loaded Lux, plus a podcast from DJ Modesty.

Loaded Lux is well known MC on the battle rap scene. He has been featured on numerous SMACK dvd's and is considered one of the top contenders for the crown. Aside from battling the kid can make songs, which is something many artists on the battle scene can't do successfully. The song "Santino" shows Lux is more than just a battle rapper.

Lola Monroe is an artist signed to Wiz Khalifa's Taylor Gang label. She's a talented MC but is often overlooked because she looks like a model. Truth is she was a model and video girl before Wiz took a chance on her and found out she has madd skills.

If you don't know the rest of the veteran MC's in this post then you're reading the wrong blog!

There's also a podcast from my homie in France, DJ Modesty. He spins the Real Hip-Hop show and always plays dope tracks.  Modesty is a humble dude who has been spinning music for years. He cuts on the turntables better than a chef with a knife. If you want to hear some more of his podcasts click the link.

Top Live MC's

I've been feeling kind of nostalgic lately, listening to older music. There is definitely a lack of substance in today's music scene. The new style focuses more on the beat and cadence like the group Travis Porter and less on lyrical content. I don't hate on this cuz it is music and introducing different styles helps the culture grow. With that said, out of the millions of rappers in the industry I only listen to a few.

Below are my Top live MC's for the moment. These catz embody what it means to be a lyricist. No matter what type of beat is playing they spit something witty and lyrically impressive so that you the listener will rewind the track and play it again. This was a tough decision cuz my opinion changes by the milli-second and catz like Kool G. Rap, Big Daddy Kane, Ice-Cube, and Smif-N-Wesson were all favorites.

I based this list of MC's off music released in the last few years, including mixtapes, features and solo projects. Below are songs by Nas, Ludicris, Rakim, Twista, Sean Price and Jadakiss. All talented lyricists who have consistently dropped new material and their rhymes have substance. Take a listen.

5 Classic Remixes

In the spirit of the best remix contest below are 5 classic remixes that still get airplay on my MP3 player. Notice that in the 90's when producers made a remix they not only added new verses, but in some cases added a new beat. The reason Murder Inc, Bad Boy and other labels at the time stopped doing this. Is the way to track a records success is thru BDS (broadcast data systems) spins and if they change the beat of a record the BDS system doesn't recognize the record anymore and starts counting spins again from zero.

Instead of having one record sell 20,000 copies and the remix selling 30,000 copies to make the total of 50,000, which would be somewhat successful. Labels had one successful record and one unsuccessful. So to capitalize off remixing a record they stopped changing the beat.
